The Liturgy of the Hours is our Church’s daily prayer that marks the hours of each day and sanctifies the day with prayer. The Hours is also known as the Divine Office.
There are five Hours of the Divine Office:
Office of Readings
Morning Prayer
Daytime Prayer
Evening Prayer
Night Prayer
The Breviary is the liturgical book that contains the daily service for the Divine Office.
“The hymns and litanies of the Liturgy of the Hours integrate the prayer of the psalms into the age of the Church, expressing the symbolism of the time of day, the liturgical season, or the feast being celebrated. Moreover, the reading from the Word of God at each Hour (with the subsequent responses or troparia) and readings from the Fathers and spiritual masters at certain Hours, reveal more deeply the meaning of the mystery being celebrated, assist in understanding the psalms, and prepare for silent prayer.” (CCC 1177)
If you do not have a Breviary at home, there are several apps our parish recommends. These include
iBreviary and
the Divine Office.
This app is free in for androids and iPhones and includes not only the daily Mass readings, but also the order of Mass, Liturgy of Hours, Rosary, Latin Rosary, and more.
Part of the New Evangelization, this media foundation from Canada shares the “joys and hopes of the Gospel through television, radio, print, and online media”. Salt and Light tells stories of hope and helps others become the salt of the earth and light of the world.
In January 2019 Pope Francis launched a new app, “Click to Pray”. This app helps connect Catholics to our universal Church by allowing individuals across the globe to share prayer intentions and view other prayer requests. The app also shares the monthly prayer intentions of Pope Francis, the daily prayers for morning, afternoon, and night. Download the app in the Android or iPhone app store.
Parishioners are invited to pray with the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (Apostleship of Prayer). Pray the intentions of the Pope and learn how to work to meet the challenges in our work by serving Christ’s mission.

As Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins once reflected, “the lives of the saints show the world ‘the divine in the human, the eternal in time'”. Parishioners can explore the lives of the Saints with a variety of sources. One is Franciscan Media, a non-profit ministry of the Franciscan Friars of St. John the Baptist Province. They strive to “fill the world with Franciscan spirit” and provide reflections you can read based off the Saint of the Day or just find your favorite one.
